Travelling south from John O'Groats, near the north-eastern tip of Scotland, we initially followed the route described in the Cicerone Press guidebook, then picked up the Scottish National Trail at Oykel Bridge and followed it to Jedburgh near the English border. It was a great route involving lots of wilderness hiking. It was very indirect but took us through some amazing scenery in the Flow Country, the North West Highlands, the Cairngorms, the Trossachs, and the Southern Uplands.
